FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures following its 1998 Japanese release by Toho. Produced by OLM, Inc. and based on the global phenomenon that had already reshaped children's entertainment, the film marked the franchise's theatrical debut and became one of the highest-grossing animated films of its year. It remains a cultural touchstone for an entire generation of viewers who encountered it at the height of Pokémon's cultural saturation.

This cell, titled Mewtwo, captures the film's central antagonist across four frames in a sustained moment of power. Mewtwo is shown raising a crackling blue energy sphere overhead in a dramatic stance, rendered against warm light rays. The sequence progresses through a transitional frame with heavy black suggesting a wipe or cut, then resolves into two clearer compositions of the same pose, with a small additional figure appearing at the lower left edge of the final frame.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
