FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures following its original 1998 Japanese release from Toho. Adapted from the wildly popular Nintendo franchise, the film marked the first theatrical feature for the Pokémon property and became a cultural milestone for an entire generation of young audiences, grossing over 85 million dollars domestically.

This cell, titled Ash Fighting Mewtwo, captures the emotional climax of the film as Ash Ketchum confronts the powerful psychic Pokémon Mewtwo in the darkened battle arena. Across the frames, Mewtwo looms dominant while Ash recoils and ultimately falls, the deep purple and blue atmospheric lighting reinforcing the weight of the sequence that would define the film for millions of viewers.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
