Pokémon: Pikachu's Vacation was released in the United States in November 1999 by Warner Bros. Pictures, paired theatrically with Pokémon: The First Movie. Produced by OLM, Inc. for Nintendo and Game Freak, the short arrived at the peak of the global Pokémon phenomenon and marked one of the first times Western audiences saw the franchise's characters in a dedicated theatrical presentation without the main cast of the television series.

This cell, titled Marill & Squirtle Race, captures Snorlax amid the assembled Pokémon crowd during the film's climactic communal sequence on the rocky terrain of the vacation resort. The wide-open mouth is characteristic of Snorlax's recurring comedic presence throughout the short, and the surrounding gathering makes this a visually dense, story-significant frame from the production.
