Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel was released in Japan in July 2016 and reached international audiences later that year, produced by OLM, Inc. and distributed through Toho. The nineteenth entry in the long-running theatrical Pokémon series, it marked a transitional moment as the franchise approached its twentieth anniversary, blending traditional hand-drawn character work with increasingly refined digital backgrounds and effects animation.
This cell captures Gengar across three closely related frames, each presenting a tight facial close-up surrounded by swirling purple energy and rings. The sequence shifts angle subtly between exposures, and by the third frame the purple tendrils extending outward become noticeably more defined, offering a rare look at the layered effect work applied to one of the series' most enduring Ghost-type characters.
