Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai was released in Japan in 2007 and reached North American audiences in 2008, distributed through the long-running theatrical Pokémon film series produced by OLM, Inc. and distributed by Toho. The tenth entry in the franchise's film canon, it marked a shift toward more mythological storytelling centered on the legendary Sinnoh region deities, drawing substantial audiences and cementing the series as a reliable theatrical presence during the Diamond and Pearl era of the franchise.
