FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. distributed Pokémon: The First Movie in North America in November 1999, adapting the Japanese theatrical feature that had released a year earlier. The film arrived at the peak of the franchise's cultural saturation, drawing record opening-weekend audiences and cementing Pokémon as a genuine cinematic property rather than a promotional extension of the games and animated series. Its theatrical trailer campaign introduced Western audiences to the film's central conflict and its mysterious antagonist.

This cell captures Mew across three successive frames from the character's name card sequence in the trailer. Mew progresses from a small, tumbling silhouette in the lower left to a larger, more defined figure, finally appearing centered and facing the viewer, with the purple MEW title text anchoring each frame against the dark background.
