FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. distributed Pokémon: The First Movie in North America in November 1999, adapting the Japanese theatrical release that had arrived a year earlier. The film marked the peak of the late-1990s Pokémon phenomenon, translating the franchise from television and trading cards to the cinema screen. Its theatrical trailer campaign was a significant cultural moment, introducing Western audiences to the mythology surrounding Mewtwo and generating considerable anticipation ahead of the film's wide release.

This cell captures frames from the trailer's iconic Mewtwo title card sequence, in which the genetically engineered Pokémon's glowing blue eyes emerge from darkness alongside the bold MEWTWO text. One frame carries a visible splice, a natural artifact of theatrical 35mm exhibition, while the remaining frames preserve the reveal in varying degrees of crop and clarity.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
