Warner Bros. distributed Pokémon: The First Movie in North America in November 1999, bringing the globally dominant Nintendo franchise to American theaters for the first time. The film arrived at the peak of Pokémon's cultural saturation and remains a landmark of late-1990s anime crossover into Western mainstream cinema. Its theatrical trailer generated significant anticipation, showcasing the film's dramatic scope and darker tone compared to the television series.

This cell, titled Gyarados by the operator, captures frames from the trailer's storm sequence, presenting Gyarados surrounded by electric energy against deep blue atmospheric effects. The remaining frames document Lugia emerging repeatedly through bursts of white energy, with one frame distinctly revealing the character's red eye against the dark background.
