Pokémon: The Movie 2000 arrived in Japanese cinemas in July 1999 before its North American release the following summer, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in partnership with Nintendo and 4Kids Entertainment. The second theatrical entry in the Pokémon franchise, it expanded the mythology of the animated series by centering on legendary Pokémon rather than the familiar gym-battle structure, drawing substantial audiences at a moment when the franchise was at its commercial and cultural peak.
