Warner Bros. distributed Pokémon: The Movie 2000 in North America in July 2000, following the unprecedented cultural wave that the franchise had built through its television series and trading card game. Produced by OLM, Inc. for Nintendo and Game Freak, the film centered on the legendary Pokémon Lugia and drew enormous theatrical audiences, cementing the property's crossover from children's entertainment into a genuine pop culture moment at the turn of the millennium.
