Pokémon: The Movie 2000 arrived in Japanese theaters in July 1999 and reached North American audiences the following summer through Warner Bros., becoming one of the defining theatrical events of the franchise's peak cultural moment. Directed by Kunihiko Yuyama, the film expanded the mythology of the original series by centering on the Legendary birds and the ancient prophecy surrounding Lugia, drawing enormous audiences and cementing animation's commercial power at the turn of the millennium.
