Pokémon: The Movie 2000 was released in North America in July 2000 by Warner Bros. Pictures, following the unprecedented cultural wave that the Pokémon franchise had built through its television series and trading card game. The film expanded on the mythology of the anime, centering on legendary Pokémon and the fate of the world, and drew enormous audiences of children and families at the height of Pokémon's mainstream dominance.
This cell, titled Team Rocket, Ash and Pikachu, captures Ash Ketchum and Pikachu alongside Jessie, James, and Meowth in what appears to be a shared dramatic moment, the four-frame strip preserving a continuous group scene against a deep purple and red interior setting. The unlikely pairing of rivals within a single frame reflects one of the film's recurring themes.
