FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The Movie 2000 arrived from Warner Bros. and Nintendo at the height of Pokémania, following the theatrical success of the first Pokémon film. Promotional trailers like this one circulated in theaters and on home video to build anticipation for the Orange Islands setting and the Legendary Birds storyline central to the plot. For collectors, these early promotional materials mark a moment when the franchise was still expanding its reach into mainstream American pop culture, making surviving 35mm trailer fragments a tangible link to that theatrical rollout.

This cell gathers Misty, Melody, Tracey Sketchit, Togepi, and Maren, placing familiar traveling companions alongside Melody and Maren, figures tied specifically to the Orange Islands arc featured in this film. Misty and Tracey draw steady collector interest as recurring anime cast members, while Togepi's presence reflects its popularity during this period of the series. As a trailer cell, this frame represents an advance look crafted to introduce audiences to supporting characters and locations ahead of the film's release, offering a glimpse of the ensemble assembled for this particular story.

Authentication Findings 8 checks

Consistent with a 35mm release trailer print of Pokémon: The Movie 2000.

Gauge
35mm: four perforations per frame along both edges; the strip holds three full frames, shown side-on with the image running across the strip's length.
Perforations
Four per frame on both edges, evenly spaced and cleanly punched, rounded-rectangle shape, with no torn, missing or stretched holes seen.
Soundtrack
A variable-area optical track runs along one edge beside the picture, and small speckled data blocks sit between the perforations on the opposite edge, as Dolby Digital data would.
Edge print
Not visible in this capture
Base & colour
Clear base with a light blue-cyan cast at the edges; the dye image looks saturated and neutral, with no red shift or fading seen.
Projection history
Faint specks and fine marks on the picture area; no heavy scratches, cue marks or splices seen at this size.
Picture
Positive colour image; the three frames repeat one near-identical shot, consistent with a single held moment. The cel-style animation fits the Pokémon film on record.
Era check
The optical track plus Dolby Digital blocks between the perforations is consistent with a 2000-era 35mm release print or trailer, and the animation style fits Pokémon.

Why so little survivesRelease prints were leased to theaters, not sold. When the run ended they went back to the distributor to be destroyed, and most were. What collectors hold today came from the prints that escaped that order, and no new 35mm prints of these films are being struck.
